Keep help where it’s needed: Close to home

My wife and I became part of a nonprofit organization that helps raise money for medical research to help find a cure for our son’s condition and kids like him.

It really hurts me and disappoints me to see that people can spend money on fundraisers for schools that have plenty of funding and things that are not life-threatening to children. It is sad that people can help those across seas and in other countries, but they cannot help the children living in their own neighborhoods.

I am not saying they do not need help, but the help is needed a little closer to home. Kids are dying in our own country because we cannot fund the research needed to cure some of these illnesses.

I just wish people would look at what is going on in their town and see where the help is really needed.
