To the public art commission: We believe that the Arc of History sculpture is a wonderful piece of true public art.
It is now, after so much community involvement, much more truly public art than most of the other public art pieces in our community.
The other works of public art in our community are wonderful, and we thank you. But they could be described as “art in public places,” with community involvement only of voting for the most recent additions to the collection, as opposed to art in which the public became very much involved. By the way, thanks for giving us a vote, even though our selections did not win.
In summary, we ask that you keep the Arc of History as is, where it is, and recognize its uniqueness as art that really involved so many of us in the community. We adore The Arc of History.
Here is a quote from a famous poem, the name of which we cannot recall just now: “Rocks speak and we are mute ...”
Thank you for being on the commission and for considering our request.
