Kiwanis Club of Durango hosting its 58th annual Pancake Day

In 1963, what national celebrity was in Durango for the annual Kiwanis Pancake Day? Was it Lyndon Baines Johnson, Aunt Jemima, John Denver or Elvis? Answer is below.

So, have you been saving your appetite?

The Kiwanis Club of Durango is hosting its 58th annual Pancake Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.

Tickets are $10; children under 12 are free. Door prizes will be given away throughout the day, and a silent auction will feature items donated from area businesses.

Proceeds from the fundraiser go to a variety of causes aimed at helping area children – “the minds, lives and futures of the youth of La Plata County,” as the club put it in a news release.

For more information about the club, visit www.kiwanisclubofdurango.org or call 247-5011.

Answer: Aunt Jemima (truthfully, it was an actress portraying the fictitious character at the time).
