I am a longtime, independent voter, and I try to be knowledgeable and informed with my vote. That said, I admit to frequently skipping over numerous contested offices and positions on the ballot because I know nothing about the office and/or little to nothing about the candidates. In the upcoming election, I get to change that practice, at least in regard to a vote for our congressional district’s (CD3), University of Colorado Regent. This particular race was never on my radar. But this election, I’ve come to know who is running and what a “regent” is and does.
Robert Logan, a local, longtime educator at Durango High School, is running for CU Regent for CD3. He’s a sixth-generation Coloradan, an Air Force vet, a Fort Lewis College grad and has completed a highly respected 27-year career in education. He will represent those of us in CD3, which is most of western and southern Colorado, for a six-year, unpaid term. Yes, unpaid! As a regent, he will be involved in hiring the president, approving the annual budget (over $6 billion), setting tuition, granting tenure and more. I know Robert to be enthusiastic, knowledgeable and anxious to serve.
Don’t skip over this choice on your ballot or cop to the “party line” approach. Vote for the best candidate. Vote for Robert Logan!
