Senior first baseman Cindy Kobrin helped the Durango High School softball team end the 2013 season on a high note.
She hit a home run and had five runs batted in Tuesday in a 7-3 win over Montezuma-Cortez (2-16, 0-6 Southwestern League).
“She came up in big spots in the game and came up big,” DHS head coach Mike Cioppa said. “She rose to the occasion.”
It was Kobrin’s fourth home run of the season, which broke a tie with current teammates Katelyn DeLuche and Rebekah Ford for the DHS single-season record.
The home run also extended the Demons’ team record for home runs in a season to 10.
The Demons opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and scored three in the fourth and two in the sixth.
DHS (9-10, 5-9 SWL) won its last five games after struggling earlier in the season.
“We played much better defense and started to gain some confidence,” Cioppa said. “The kids started believing in what we see every day in practice.”
