After going a perfect 8-0 in the 4A Southwestern League, the Durango High School boys soccer team had a lot of its players get recognized for their performances.
Four Demons landed on the all-league first team and three more earned spots on the second team.
Senior Nik Korte grabbed the biggest honor and was named the league’s Player of the Year.
Joining Korte on the all-league first team were three other seniors: Cedar Newman, Gates Linney and goalie Fred Reiter.
Senior Sam Caudle received second-team honors along with juniors Davis Cameron and Teryk Webber.
Korte scored a league-high 20 goals, assisted nine more and was a threat pretty much every time he touched the ball.
Newman scored 12 goals, assisted 12 and also had 234 steals on the year.
Cameron scored eight goals and assisted eight more while Webber scored seven goals and had eight assists on the year.
On defense, Linney and Caudle helped Reiter and the Demons shut out 10 of their opponents this season. Reiter only allowed seven goals in 15 games while Linney stole the ball 274 times and Caudle had 206 swipes.
The Demons outscored their league opponents 50-2.
“I’m really proud of them,” said DHS head coach Danny Suits. “They absolutely deserved it. They had an amazing year.”
Suits was also named the league’s Coach of the Year.
After going undefeated in the league and finishing their regular season 15-0 overall, the Demons earned the No. 1 seed in the CHSAA Class 4A state championships.
