Kroeger lands a hat trick plus one

Forward scores four in FLC rout

The Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team ended its regular season with a big bang Sunday, scoring seven times to rout Colorado Christian 7-0 in Lakewood.

Tamino Kroeger followed up his two-goal effort against Colorado Mines with four more Sunday to finish the regular season with 10, and FLC also got tallies from Maik Brandt, Trevor Gibbons and Luke Lawrence.

FLC goalkeeper Ryan Pakaiser had to make just one save to keep the clean sheet. The Skyhawks had an 18-2 edge in shots and 15-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Casey Dean chipped in three assists for the Skyhawks, who finished the regular season 10-7-1 and 7-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

“We set a goal a week ago to make sure we finish .500 (in league), and the second piece of that goal ... is to win the RMAC Tournament,” Fort Lewis head coach Oige Kennedy said.

The Skyhawks have won that particular event 11 times and will be seeded fifth this time around. They’ll look to open a run to a 12th RMAC Tournament championship against fourth-seeded Metro State on Wednesday in Denver. Kickoff will be at 2:30 p.m., with the winner facing top-seeded Regis on Friday in Denver.

“We’ve taken care of one piece; now we have to go take care of the other,” Kennedy said of the tournament.

Fort Lewis has shown it’s a possible threat, boasting wins this year over regular-season champion Regis and the South Central Region’s current top-ranked team, Colorado Mines. It’s the consistency that’s eluded the Skyhawks, something they’ll look to grab hold of this weekend.

“We’ve definitely shown we’re capable. Now it’s about being consistent in, hopefully, three games,” Kennedy said.
