How exciting to read a front-page story about Fort Lewis College alumnus Brandon Francis’ work monitoring soil along the San Juan River after the Gold King Mine spill. All we heard about previously was water monitoring.
I know about extension and soil work because my father was a university soil scientist who worked with extension employees. I applaud extension agent Francis’ focus on bioremediation in addition to soil monitoring.
He sounds like a perfect fit for the incubator program at the old Fort Lewis. How wonderful that in the future he hopes to earn graduate degrees and to use what he’s learned to help his people of the Navajo Nation.
He sounds like the kind of person whose work will be widely shared one day.
