I was about the third person on the scene of the crash on June 26 and am a former ski patrolman; I do not know Neil Hannum. Almost immediately, a Farmington emergency room nurse and an EMT stopped and jumped in to help, as well as a retired Durango surgeon.
The focus was on immediate first aid, and getting 911 emergency service there as soon as possible. Traffic control in the middle of Highway 550 was critical as well.
I’m writing to give a huge thumbs up to the people who are in and around Durango and willing to jump in and help in an emergency situation like this. It was very impressive. Not to mention the Durango EMTs.
My prayers and hopes for a full recovery go to Hannum.
