Matava
The Boys and Girls Club of La Plata County recently named Molly Matava “Youth of the Year.”
Matava will also be a candidate for Colorado Youth of the Year and entered to receive a $5,000 college scholarship from Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
The Youth of the Year Award recognizes leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle.
Matava found the club at a pivotal time while she struggled with depression as well as body image and self-esteem issues. The club and support she found in the staff and peers were invaluable to her development. She now works as a program aide to spread the club’s message.
Matava is attending community college courses to prepare for a career in dental hygiene.
