La Plata County awarded federal money for emergency food, shelter programs

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded $8,533 for Phase 37, and an additional amount of $8,646 for CARES (Coronavirus Aid Relief & Economic Security) to the La Plata County jurisdiction to supplement existing emergency food and shelter programs.

Under the grant terms, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: be private, voluntary nonprofits with a voluntary board or units of government; have an accounting system; practice nondiscrimination; and have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and or shelter programs.

Qualified agencies are urged to apply.

Applications are due at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The local Emergency Food & Shelter Board will convene to review applications and allocate this funding at 9 a.m. Thursday via Zoom. All participating applicants must be represented at this meeting to receive funding.
