La Plata County candidates to attend Sept. 17 forum

Commissioner, sheriff and treasurer positions up for election

The La Plata County League of Women Voters, with support from The Durango Herald, will hold two forums with candidates for contested La Plata County offices from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the La Plata County Administration Building, 1101 East Second Ave., and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway.

The forum will include contested candidates for:

Commissioner: Brad Blake, incumbent, Republican; Clyde Church, Democrat.Sheriff: Charles Hamby, Republican; Adrian Dean Mize, unaffiliated; Sean Smith, incumbent, Democrat.Treasurer: Allison Aichele, incumbent, Democrat; Colton Black, Republican.Uncontested candidates are invited to appear and give introductions.

The Bayfield forum will include a 15-minute presentation from Shelly Walchak, director of Pine River Library, about the local levy to raise taxes for the library.

Both forums will be live-streamed on the Herald website: www.durangoherald.com and will be live on the Herald’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/thedurangoherald.

Community members can ask questions in person at the forum, in the comments section of the Facebook Live stream or before the forum by emailing “League of Women Voters” at trishpegram@gmail.com. Questions will be sorted and consolidated by the League of Women Voters.

The General Election will be held Nov. 6.
