A vote to repeal and replace certain portions of La Plata County’s marijuana licensing regulations was pushed to next month so the code language can be massaged a final time.
County commissioners on Tuesday decided to continue the vote to March 7.
Commissioners will hold a work session at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 23 to continue discussions on the proposed code changes, which are expected to expedite aspects of the licensing process for both county staff members and applicants.
Among the changes:
The appointed marijuana licensing authority board would dissolve. In its place, commissioners would assume those responsibilities.License-holders would be able to make minor modifications at their practice without going through an official approval process.Applicants could receive conditional cultivation licenses from the county to streamline the regulatory process at the state level.Throughout the monthslong revision process, members of the public, mainly local marijuana industry professionals, have weighed in, which has influenced the regulatory revisions.
The 2012 passage of Amendment 64 in Colorado legalized recreational marijuana use, cultivation and sale, and the county adopted its first marijuana regulations two years later.
County officials said related policy is relatively new, and they anticipate discussions will continue as state laws and the local industry evolve.
Both upcoming meetings will be at the county Administration Building, 1101 East Second Ave.
