Durango Kennel Club recently announced that it donated $11,000 to La Plata County Humane Society
An initial $10,000 was donated through the American Kennel Club “Reunite Program” for supplies and an additional $1,000 donation from Durango Kennel Club was added to help the Humane Society provide services for animals that were displaced or impacted from the 416 Fire.
The Humane Society was created in 1971 to provide shelter and find stable, lasting homes for strays, rescues and animals in distress, and to assist in the investigations and prosecutions of reported animal cruelty or abuse.
The Durango and American Kennel clubs encourage community members to give financial support to the Humane Society to help care for evacuated animals. According to a news release from the Humane Society, the financial resources of the organization are under increased stress because of unexpected expenses and lack of revenue from adoptions and other animals services.
Donations can be made in-person at the Humane Society, 1111 S. Camino del Rio, or online at www.lpchumanesociety.org.
