A La Plata County man suspected of shooting someone in a dispute about who owned a chain saw has been charged with felony assault.
Sheriff’s deputies said Robert Simons, 45, fired two shots from a Remington Nylon 66 .22-caliber rifle Nov. 30, one shot into the air and the other into Westly Teater’s left leg.
Teater, 31, was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released and is now walking with a walker.
Law enforcement arrested Simons days later on suspicion of second-degree assault.
Teater also turned himself in to law enforcement for outstanding warrants that stemmed from an unrelated incident.
Simons was being held Friday at the La Plata County Jail on $5,000 bail.
