La Plata County voters can now drop off their election ballots 24 hours a day at the Clerk & Recorder’s Office in Durango.
Clerk & Recorder Tiffany Lee Parker has installed a secure ballot drop-off box at her office on 98 Everett St.
Mail-in ballots for the state primary election were sent out Monday to county residents affiliated with the American Constitution, Democratic or Republican parties with a current voter registration, a news release said. The primary is June 24.
“I’m really pleased to offer this new option to the voters in La Plata County,” Parker said in the news release. “The 24-hour location will allow voters the opportunity to drop off their ballots any time before the election, at their convenience.”
Voters must affiliate with a political party to cast a ballot in the primary. A mail-in ballot will not be sent unless the voter joins a party by June 17.
From June 18 through election day, voters may affiliate at one of three polling centers: the Clerk & Recorder’s Office; Bayfield Town Hall at 1199 Bayfield Parkway; or the La Plata County Fairgrounds at 2500 Main Ave.
Voting in the primary doesn’t affect a resident’s eligibility to vote in the November general election.
Residents may update their address at www.govotecolorado.com, the Clerk & Recorder’s Office or the Bayfield Town Hall.
All mail ballots are due by 7 p.m. June 24. Ballots may be returned to a drop site or by U.S. mail. If voters choose not to use their mail-in ballot, they are welcome to vote in person.
