La Plata County seeks volunteers for newly created Wildfire Advisory Board

La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified people to serve on the newly created Wildfire Advisory Board.

The WAB acts in an advisory capacity and makes recommendations to the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners about wildfire planning matters and decisions. The WAB may make formal recommendations to commissioners about the adoption of ordinances based on the International Wildland-Urban Interface Code for the purpose of reducing wildfire risk in the county.

The WAB will review specific matters submitted to it for consideration by the board or the Community Development Department; review and evaluate research and model code language; support and further public education; source and recommend funding mechanisms for reducing wildfire risk; and formulate, recommend and provide guidance about mitigation planning activities and wildfire preparedness strategies.

Each member of the WAB must be a resident of La Plata County.
