The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office has begun providing The Durango Herald with a summary of calls and incidents handled by the agency that will be summarized and included in “The Blotter,” which appears regularly on Page 3A of the Herald and at durangoherald.com.
The Sheriff’s Office plans to provide the incident log Tuesday through Friday until another employee can be trained to create the file, at which time, it will become more regular.
The Durango Police Department has been providing a blotter since about May 2012.
Area law enforcement responds to dozens of calls every day. The Blotter includes only a handful of those calls, with the goal of informing readers of illegal activity occurring in their neighborhoods or community, and, of course, featuring some of the lighter or more funny calls law enforcement must deal with. (Fort Lewis College Music Director Linda Mack Berven has been known to sing some of her favorite blotter moments once a year.)
The most serious calls are typically handled as news stories.
