Several La Plata County roads are set for repairs over the next two weeks.

On Monday, the county’s Road and Bridge crew began chip-and-seal projects on 1.25 miles of County Road 509 and 2 miles of County Road 309A, near Durango-La Plata County Airport.

On Tuesday, crews began work on 1 mile of County Road 205; and on Wednesday, a project to tackle 7 miles of La Posta Road (County Road 213), starting at the intersection with U.S. Highway 550, will begin.

On Aug. 31, another project to chip-and-seal 2 miles of County Road 142 will begin.

All work is estimated to be complete by Sept. 2, the county said in a news release.

Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane while work is in progress. A pilot car will guide vehicles through work zones. And delays of up to 20 minutes should be expected.

“However, every attempt will be made to minimize traffic delays during peak morning and afternoon commuting hours,” the county said. “Motorists are encouraged to allow a little extra travel time for their commute and to drive with caution through the work zone, for their own safety and the safety of the work crews.”

In other news, the Colorado Department of Local Affairs recently awarded La Plata County $750,000 for a 2.8-mile mill-and-overlay project on County Road 234, which runs north of U.S. Highway 160 between Durango and Bayfield.

The total project will cost $1.5 million, said county spokeswoman Megan Graham. The county will cover the remaining $750,000. The project will start next year, Graham said.
