La Plata County received a report of a possible scammer using the phone number 970-382-6147, a valid and legitimate county phone number.
The potential scammer asked for a Social Security number. La Plata County staff said employees will never call or email and ask residents for unsolicited personal information.
If you receive a call asking for such information, immediately hang up and report the call to 382-6265.
