La Plata Democrats will hold its 30th annual Roosevelt Fundraising Dinner at 5:30 p.m. May 13 in the Student Union Ballroom at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.

The theme is “Peaceful Resistance,” with keynote speaker FLC professor Anthony Nocella. Newly-appointed Colorado Democrats chairwoman Morgan Carroll and state Rep. Barbara McLachlan also will speak.

Nocella is an FLC assistant professor of sociology, criminology, peace and conflict studies, gender and women’s studies, and environmental studies. He will talk about the local and national response to issues that threaten the environment, cultural diversity and security.

Carrol will speak about the state- and nationwide efforts to protect farmers, working people, education and health systems.

McLachlan will talk about her work in the legislative session that ends Wednesday, May 10.

The event will feature a catered dinner of local and seasonal gourmet foods; a live, silent auction; a cash bar, and music by Walt Dear, Dan Morgenstern and Cyprus Cafe owner, Allison Dance.

Single-ticket cost is $75; other ticket and purchase information is available at www.laplatadems.org.

Fundraising efforts will help elect progressive candidates and inform voters about the issues and opportunities that face the community.
