La Plata Open Space Conservancy, a Southwest Colorado land conservation organization, welcomes two new employees.
Åsa Björklund joined the organization in September 2019 as the associate director. She organized LPOSC’s annual Snowdown fundraiser, and will continue to work on communications, development and community outreach. Originally from Sweden, she relocated to Durango from Prescott, Arizona. Prior to that, she lived in Guatemala, where she worked with international aid projects and nature conservation. She has a law degree and a B.A. in journalism and communication.
Christy Curd joined the organization as stewardship coordinator in January. She will fulfill the organization’s requirements to monitor each of its 160-plus conserved properties. Her background includes natural resource monitoring for the U.S. Forest Service and community engagement for the Continental Divide Trail Coalition.
Originally from Montana, she has lived in Durango since 2017. She has a bachelor’s degree in field ecology from the University of Montana.
