On Oct. 2, La Plata Youth Services in Durango received a $25,000 award for excellence by the El Pomar Foundation for commitment in bettering the lives of Coloradans.
La Plata provides support to local young people facing challenges in school, home and court.
Scott Smith, program manager of the Community in Schools Partnerships, said in a news release that he has seen a lot of young people go through the program and now sees those youths as adults with full-time jobs who are active in the community.
