Commissioners Blake and Westendorff were at the pivotal land-use code Jan. 9 meeting in Oxford to listen to hundreds of citizens’ concerns, Commissioner Lachelt was absent.
On Jan. 8, Chairperson Lachelt was at a hearing in Denver using her personal time to represent two landowners who, coincidentally, also support her work as Western Leaders Network director.
Commissioner Lachelt wasted our money encouraging the county to join a complicated lawsuit – Martinez v. Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission. Despite claiming in the Herald that she’s never cast a vote against this industry, Lachelt cast a big vote against oil and gas on June 27 in favor of joining the Martinez lawsuit, which fortunately failed.
On April 2, 2013, she voted for a moratorium on drilling despite the fact that the county had no legal basis for a moratorium. In 2017, Lachelt was in Washington D.C. three times, two paid for by outside interests, WLN and Public Lands Solutions. While in D.C., she was collecting her county salary ($94,000 annual), in addition to unreported special interest income, and not attending county meetings she was elected to attend.
Lachelt was absent in Oxford, she’s actively lobbied against the county’s economic interests, refused to disclose WLN earnings and spending special interest money – Tom Steyer and others per filed financial reports – to abrupt the civic recall process. It’s no wonder the people of La Plata County want a new employee for the District 2 seat.
