Lack of bees ‘conspicuous absence’

I have traveled to Durango a few times a year over the past 25 years to visit family. I was happy to come this year in May, as Wyoming is still pretty chilly, while Southwest Colorado is bursting with spring flowers. My parent's back yard is packed with every flower a bee could love – catmint, chokecherry, flox and allium.

And yet. Over the past week, I have not seen a single wild bee, bumblebee or domestic Apis mellifera honey bee. A conspicuous absence! I hope Durango takes stock of this concerning demise.

Bee well!
