Lake Nighthorse plan ignores quiet users

The recreation plan for Lake Nighthorse stinks. There are a lot of people in Durango who would like to swim, fish, paddle or sail without buzzing jet skis or powerboats thundering across the lake. Navajo Lake and Vallecito Reservoir are large and power boaters can pretty much do as they please in either of them.

So why not reserve Lake Nighthorse for everyone else? Or even make three days per week non-motorized, and four days motorized, and swap out every other weekend? These options weren’t considered in the rec plan. Why not?

Revenues shouldn’t trump everything. We have a pristine mountain lake, and many of us would like a chance to enjoy it without kids going crazy on jet skis or inebriated speed boaters seeing just how fast they can go.
