Land-use meetings postponed

Severe winter weather may have skirted Durango, but it was enough to prevent the city of Durango’s code consultant from flying down for two planned meetings about the proposed Land Use and Development Code.

Both Wednesday’s public meeting, scheduled to take place at the Durango Public Library, and today’s Planning Commission meeting, slated to discuss the 500-page code, have been postponed until January.

“We awarded the contract in 2009, so it’s been three-plus years,” senior planner Vicki Vandegrift said, adding that approval is just going to take a little longer. “Of course the storm down here wasn’t as big as they predicted, but they didn’t know that when they canceled the flight.”

The city already had the consultant booked to come in January to meet with City Council, so those dates will now be used for the public meeting and Planning Commission hearing. A later date, perhaps in February, will be scheduled for the City Council as it decides whether or not to approve the proposed document.
