I recently attended a La Plata Electric Association board meeting to encourage our co-op to move toward more renewable energy.
My comments were not met with enthusiasm or interest.
Though the LPEA website lists part of their mission is environmental responsibility, I do not see them walking their talk.
LPEA contracts with Tri-State to buy electricity, the fourth dirtiest energy company in the U.S. This is not my idea of environmental responsibility.
We need new leadership and fresh perspective to transition LPEA to a clean energy future.
Rachel Landis recently announced her candidacy for the LPEA board election, District 3 (city of Durango), and I am excited about the experience and leadership she can bring to the position.
Rachel is the coordinator of the FLC Environmental Center, where her many responsibilities include campus sustainability projects in energy and waste management.
Rachel has a broad base of experience from infrastructure and program design to policy creation.
She has served on the city of Durango’s Housing, Planning and Advisory Committee, as well as other local board memberships.
Her goals in working for the LPEA board include keeping rates and fees down and fair; supporting a transition to clean renewable energy sources that combat climate change; and supporting our economy by keeping our energy dollars local with clean energy alternatives jobs.
I urge you to join me in supporting Rachel Landis and a clean energy future when your next LPEA bill arrives with the ballot.
