I was awaiting the La Plata Electric Association ballot and its information sheet on the election of its board of directors.
The race I’m interested in pits two new candidates for District 3, Rachel Landis and Michael Bell. Looking at their bios and statements, I see a big difference in the two candidates, especially as a teacher who grades papers that often lack examples and specifics to be convincing.
To point: Michael Bell is a long-standing community member and business owner in Durango. For all this time and business experience, he can only state the following generalities as his platform of qualifications and intent:
“…my business experience & community service involvement provide me with the qualifications to represent.…” “Having served on a variety of Boards over the years.…” “I support all energy sources that demonstrate responsible conservation and concern for our environment.” On the other hand, Rachel Landis gives us much more specific information, citing that she would:
“…advocate that LPEA address climate change on a local level.…”,“…keep our energy dollars local.” “…push LPEA to decrease electricity-related emissions.” “…sponsor new renewable energy projects to expand existing consumer energy efficiency opportunities, such as LPEA’s Net Metering and Time-of-Use programs.” “…support collective regional goals, such as the City of Durango’s Climate & Energy Action Plan.”So to this reader and LPEA member, there is a clear difference between the candidates in how specific they are in what they either have done, or will do if elected.
Please read about the candidates in your LPEA district and vote for the one who can best articulate his or her views and direction if elected. In District 3, this is clearly Rachel Landis.
