The annual edition of the The Snowdown Sneer is hot off the press and available for pickup at the Durango Welcome Center and Magpies Newsstand at Cafe.
Those are located at 802 Main Ave. and at 707 Main Ave., respectively.
The satirical newspaper’s 2026 edition takes sarcastic jabs at pickleball courts, a dry winter and the United States Postal Service, among other newsy notes about Durango and La Plata County that made headlines in 2025.
Front and center on the front page, the Sneer mocks slow mail delivery in an article announcing residents are welcome to visit the Durango Post Office and dive into “The Pile” to find their mail.
Winter 2025-26’s “heartbreakingly low snow levels” were noted in a mock news story in which Purgatory Resort reportedly offered a “Bring Your Own Snow” discount.
In the piece, Jeff Mogul, a Purgatory “spokesperson,” invites patrons to bring dirty snow, hard-packed snow and even “yellow snow,” noting Chapman Hill Ski Area in Durango “will be under 24-hour armed guard.”
The Sneer also targeted the city of Durango over its outdoor pickleball courts, Independence Day drone shows and access to child care – off-leash dogs fell under fire in two separate stories.
One article headline reads: “City to Renovate Pickleball Complex, Distinguish which Courts are Dill, which Bread & Butter.”
Another article packed the issues of child care and off-leash dogs into one elegant solution: a fenced-in outdoor pre-K child care facility and dog park.
A story on the back page of the Sneer, reported by “Dee Stopia,” reported the city ordered an additional 500 Flock Safety cameras to monitor residents who fail to pick up after their dogs.
The Sneer also includes crossword, word search and “F-You Sudoku” puzzles and a Colorado history-themed Zodiac page, in line with Snowdown’s theme, “Uniquely Colorado – Then and Wow.”
