A man who requested anonymity paid off everything in layaway at the Durango Walmart on Friday.

The grand total: $16,700.

About 80 people had items on layaway, including a Walmart employee who had a total of $998 worth of items – more than anyone else, said Angi, a shift supervisor who declined to give her last name.

“I couldn’t stop smiling,” she said. “It took quite a while for us to get it rung up because we had to do each individual account. I got to spend a little time with him. A very, very nice gentleman.”

Layaway Santas, as they’re known, have visited other stores across the country to deliver other acts of kindness during the holiday season.
