DENVER – Eleven bills received third reading, 18 second reading and 22 were scheduled for committee hearings on Monday in the Colorado Legislature .
Bills scheduled for floor work included:
House Bill 1003, which would place a Dec. 1 deadline on a study of the factors driving down enrollment in teacher education programs and creating a lack of applicants for teaching jobs in rural Colorado, passed third reading in the House on 37-26 vote that saw a single Republican, Marc Catlin of Montrose, vote in favor of the measure.HB 1003 also requires the Education and Higher Education departments to draft a strategic plan to address the teacher shortage and correct the factors identified in the study.
HB 1145, which would allow amateur vintners to participate in wine-tasting competitions as long as only judges of legal drinking age consumed their products, was adopted upon second reading in the Senate and scheduled for third reading in the coming days.HB 1179, which would expand good Samaritan law by allowing Coloradans to use of force to enter a locked vehicle and provide emergency assistance to people or animals as long as a it was actually an emergency and law enforcement had been contacted and advised of the situation, was also adopted by the Senate and placed on the third reading consent calendar.HB 1129, which would change statute on worker’s compensation allowing employees who suffered a mental impairments due to witnessing traumatic events, such as those witnessed by law enforcement and emergency responder, as part of employment, passed third reading in the House 52-11.
