In response to Candice Carson’s letter (Herald, Oct. 6): So we should support the barbaric, butchering Planned Parenthood organization? The group the performs late-term abortions, partial-birth abortions, alters procedures to harvest body parts, and then sells these body parts. That vile organization receives $538 million in taxpayer funds and does not even own one mammogram x-ray machine. It uses part of that money, tens of millions, to contribute to Democratic campaign funds. Could that be construed as graft and corruption?
The idea of them providing health care is highly overrated, about all they do in this area is make referrals. Now nobody is saying take away the money, just direct it to organizations that actually provide women’s health care. As far as contraception is concerned, other facilities provide that along with federal government offices, (Title X).
There are a multitude of charitable organizations that do wonderful work and rely on private funding only, Catholic Charities being one that comes to mind. It shelters battered women and their children (that would be fighting the war on women), take care of the poor and homeless, and do many other substantial and helpful deeds.
So, perhaps Carson and so many liberals that are so fond of Planned Parenthood should take money out of their wallets and contribute instead of reaching into my back pocket; something liberals are so good at doing, spending other peoples money. Of course this might mean that Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards could have to cut a zero from her $500,000 salary and quit flying on chartered flights.
