Let’s form a more compassionate union

Yeah, it’s me, the old guy, again.

This is the place where we speak our minds and maybe even collaborate to make a new tomorrow.

I’m tired of the labels on generations. Millennials, Gen Z and other appellations are more put-downs than they are descriptive, let alone explanatory.

I’m in the older generation. I’m not saying my time in life is done. Retirement is not a bow-out of responsibility. While I did pass the work torch to others, I am still engaged in the whole social mechanism. I belong. You belong as well, as all the generations before and after us.

We are the United States of America, socially, politically and economically. We are a country, united in democratic principles. Let us convene in public forums, communicate, collaborate, compromise and form a more compassionate union.

Yes, it is a strange time, with looming medical, social, economic, political and climactic crises. We’ve been here many times before, in varying degrees. We have no choice but to work through the immense difficulties.

We need to lead and to follow leaders. They are not mutually exclusive.

I am not just how I voted in an election and I suspect neither are you.

Peace be with you.

William Frederick
