I do not take sides politically, but I feel like it’s a mistake to introduce different flags into the classrooms in our schools. It’s not the flag that I object to but the favoring of one over another. Allowing symbols of different groups will open the door for more requests. It’s a Pandora’s box. We have one flag that has stood for every citizen of the U.S. as well as those seeking to become citizens, to be granted certain rights, privileges and protections of this great nation since 1776. Of course, there are different opinions about everything in our world, but isn’t that what our Constitution allows us to do while protecting our right to do so? Our schools should be safe places for students. Deciding that one group should be allowed and another denied will create division and rather than lead to a safe environment it could easily do just the opposite. The introduction of thoughts and opinions is one thing, but the introduction of symbols like flags is another. We are all equal in this country; let’s have just one flag, recognized around the world that represents all of us together.
