Opinion Editorial Cartoons Op-Ed Editorials Letters to the Editor

Let’s make the newspaper great again!

As a longtime critic of the Herald’s progressive stance, I thought that perhaps I need to rethink my opinion and work to make the Herald great again.

It’s no secret that print newspapers are bleeding dollars left and right. The fact that the biggest money losers promote left-wing issues is probably a coincidence.

The New York Times recently announced it would vacate eight floors of the Times Building in order to generate rent income to stay afloat.

There are several ways that the Herald can gain stature in the community and possibly even profit from the change.

First off, tens of thousands of dollars can be saved by eliminating the syndicated columnists like Dana Milbanks, Kathleen Parker, Paul Krugman, Connie Schultz, Froma Harrop and even Charles Krauthammer.

Even more money can be saved by unsubscribing to the editorial cartoon services.

With the elimination of columns written by the out-of-touch East Coast elites, there will be plenty of room to print letters to the editor by locals without enforcing the 30-day rule. While I don’t always agree with locals writing Sunday editorials, it’s a damn sight better than the stuff that comes out of the D.C. bubble.

Finally, it would be nice if the Herald would promote half-day seminars for locals as well as students explaining what a stylebook is, as well as layout guidelines for writing Sunday editorials.

Let’s make the Herald great again!
