I’m a resident in the Bayfield School District and after looking at my property tax bill I found that the Bayfield School District has the highest mill rate in the county, far surpassing that of Durango, Ignacio, etc. We agreed to pay more for quality schools in Bayfield, and instead we get cutbacks, with the excuse that the state of Colorado is to blame.
Someone needs to do some explaining and fast. We taxpayers are at the end of our ropes with unkept promises that are becoming very costly. Please have your reporters follow up with an in-depth review of how our hard-earned tax dollars have been spent by the school district that results in staff layoffs. Not acceptable (and no COVID-19 excuses, please).
