I want to give a great shout-out to our local bus service.
I ran out of my house just as the bus was heading to my stop. I forgot my mask, but was able to pull up my T-shirt and show my bus pass. As we approached downtown, the driver offered me a mask, making my ride more comfortable and safer.
There were two women – probably visitors – who didn’t have money to get on the bus, I thought I would pay it forward but only had a large bill. I told the driver what I wanted to do, but he said not to worry about it.
I do worry about it – because of how amazing these drivers are and how they care for our local community and for the homeless community as well.
I would love to see our local government take some responsibility and pay drivers well, find ways to ease transport for people labeled disabled (driver has to enter and exit to help with wheelchairs), make routes more accessible to more Durangoans and support road repairs.
A mask is a small gift and it made my day.
