This is how Durango takes care of its most needy? Times are tough for sure, indeed, maybe extremely difficult for many of you.
Durangoans pride themselves on their community, one rich in history and culture, entertainment and activities. But have you seen where you have scuttled your homeless off to? In the deep dark cold, frozen and snowy shadow of the Purple Cliffs! You know, down by the icy river where the winter sun rarely shines nor warms people. Yes, real people, not the vague term “homeless.”
While you’re lamenting the lack of your usual pre-COVID-19 activities – dining out, partying, hosting tourists, etc., – humans are spending their winter in tents, without easy access to food or other essentials. They’ve been allocated a perfect “out of sight, out of mind” location – comfortable for you to forget them.
Do I offer a better solution? No, but I’m not in charge of making those decisions. Your community leaders are.
C’mon Durango, you know better and can do better.
