Letter: Get real: Election was fair, ‘protestors’ were rioters, news is not fake

Please stop with the verbal attacks on the election. It will not always be the result you may desire, but that doesn’t mean it’s rigged!

It wasn’t “a few” rioters who stormed and defaced our Captiol and threatened officials from both political parties and it wasn’t Antifa who caused the tragic deaths or who egged on the mob. The people who laid siege upon our Capitol were all terribly misled and misinformed Trump supporters.

In other places, racial justice and other peaceful protestors have been harassed and injured for months and the rioters who took advantage of the ensuing chaos were rightfully arrested. The people who fought our Capitol law enforcement officers to break into the Capitol are predominantly white rioters and were mostly allowed to charge the buildings. Some of the police even posed for selfies with them!

All of the above is not “fake;” the news may be biased, but it is not fake, like so much of the nonsense you can easily find on the internet. This should never have happened. Most folks know Trump was mentally unfit for the presidency, but we hoped the checks and balances would protect us and our institutions.

In the new year, please find a trusted news source, not a rabbit hole, and please let’s do something constructive, not destructive and divisive, with our time. Instead of arguing and grandstanding, defend the polar bears or help the sick!
