Letter: Herald favors ‘East-Coast elite, progressive’ sources

There’s a certain irony in the Herald’s editorial in the weekend edition trying to define why the country is so divided.

A Washington Post editorial on the same page has this quote: “Republicans need to make the first move to build trust so that the national unity around common values is possible.” Another Washington Post columnist in the same issue plays the white supremacy card in accusing the media not “holding itself accountable for Trump.”

The Jan. 22 issue editorial called out Rep. Lauren Boebert for exercising her constitutional rights. As I’ve said before, the media has some responsibility on this issue.

The Herald has lost over half of its circulation in the past 30 years while the population in La Plata County has almost doubled in that same time period. I’ve always recognized that the Herald has moved to the left in their choice of syndicated columnists and East Coast news services. Is there a correlation between the loss of Herald circulation and the choice of East-Coast elite, progressive columnists and editorial cartoons that constantly berate anyone who didn’t vote for a candidate with a D after their name?
