The Herald’s grossly uninformed anti-Trump editorial on Jan. 8 should be retracted.
The 25th Amendment is a health-related issue and it takes two-thirds of the House and the Senate to enact it; that would never happen, by any stretch of the imagination, so to appeal to the leftist public in Durango with this gross distortion is a disservice.
The Herald has long since dropped any pretense of representing all of the public’s “right to know” and has simply become the hand-puppet of the Democratic Party. Looking back over the years, the Herald has always been pro-Democrat president and anti-Republican president. Nothing has changed. Positive news about Republicans is censored; negative news about Democrats is censored. “Gatekeeping the news”, as it’s known in journalism circles, is simply censorship.
I realize that the Herald has been trying to avoid political conflict by becoming “local news” when it’s convenient, but all of its “national news,” whether from the AP or from other commentary, has still toed the line of pro-Democrat (the AP is like Pravda for Democrats) and anti-Republican.
If the Herald had not been so blatantly partisan for so many years, it might not have been forced to pretend that it is only “local news” nowadays. Instead of hiding behind the “local news” gambit to avoid the sins of the past, perhaps the Herald should fire some of its partisan staff and get some truly objective journalists on the job.
You’d be surprised how many Durangoans would welcome such a change. It might even help your subscription rates.
