Truth be told, I don’t actually live in the town of Durango. But to hear the constant cheerleading for the proposed lodgers tax is kind of amusing.
Why aim so low? How about making a pitch to Disney, as their coffers are limitless. The Durango business owners would be rich, rich, rich! And the trickle-down theory would benefit us all.
The good folks at Disney could have admission, naming and signage rights to our favorite hiking & biking trails; fishing holes; town, dog and water parks – and all of the ski runs at Purgatory, just for starters. No doubt they would put Moab to shame with their advertising extravaganza.
Imagine the castle upon castle of hotels as we become the Orlando of the Southwest. It’s exciting just to think of the possibilities.
Enough for now, I’m off to join my buddies in the hunt for the Treasure of Sierra Madre.
