Last year at this time, the collective heart of the cycling community was broken when Ben Sonntag was killed while out training on a county road.
It is important that all drivers be aware of the cyclists in and around Durango, especially as training ramps up for the spring, and be familiar with what roads are popular training grounds. For example, we see too many drivers going way too fast on Florida Road, which has many curves, and cannot help but think about cyclists going up and down the road as our own son has done so many times.
More road signs wouldn’t hurt either, especially as traffic increases in the area.
Please help keep cycling safe in and around this community for young and old alike.
