Vote for ballot initiative 1-AA to support local businesses. The negative letter writers probably came here as tourists. So when they claim Durango was overrun by tourists I say ask the Palace, Cassidys, the Spa Shop, Mutus, the Irish Embassy and there will be a big fat ‘No.’ Look at the empty store fronts.
1-A will market Durango, have money for transportation, arts and events that will support the Mom-and-Pop businesses we love. Durango has been hurt by the Gold King Spill, the 416 Fire and now COVID-19.
The negative writers never had to lay off employees and wonder how to pay the rent. Almost every Colorado town has a higher lodgers tax than Durango. Lodgers tax is paid for by tourists and not locals, but benefits locals.
