Regarding Mike Sigman’s letters of Nov. 11 and Dec. 9: The former letter was bemoaning what Sigman perceives as Durango school kids being indoctrinated about climate change. In the latter, his beef was that “the putative journalists of the liberal media” were constantly generating negative press against Trump.
For the record, on that last one, I agree. Because ... they were doing their jobs. What Sigman fails to understand is that it’s not the job of the press (or the education system – per his other letter) to present both sides of an issue as equals. When one side of something is demonstrably wrong-headed, false or, probably the worst president in the history of the republic (a president that has no interest in anything other than himself and has acted accordingly at every turn), then the press or anyone else is under no obligation to present both sides as equal.
In fact, quite the opposite. The obligation is to present the facts and expose the lies and disinformation. Sigman calls Joe Biden “very mediocre.” We’ll see. But even if he is, he’ll be light years better than Trump and his band of thieves, grifters, traitors and incompetents. Hell, a box of rocks would be better.
To any impartial person or entity, climate change is real, pressing and an existential threat, and Donald Trump is a lying reality show buffoon/moderately skilled con man, who managed to con 74,000,000 people. Don’t know whether that says more about him, or them.
