Letter: No jail time for sex offender is outrageous

No jail time for an offender (Feb. 20, “

In the interest of full disclosure, I will begin by saying that I am a retired sex offender treatment provider and a retired domestic violence treatment provider. I know the ilk of these offenders. For a judge to say that she knows the appropriate kind of punishment for such aberrant behavior is outrageous.

These offenders have harmed, imprisoned and punished their victims for years and years to come! Spending some time in jail will give them plenty of time afterward to register as sex offenders and to get treatment. Putting a sex offender on probation only is outrageous.

Might this new judge learn more about what sex offenders and for that matter domestic violence offenders do and how they think?

I stand with my fellow professionals in expressing my outrage at this ineffective order for this offender.
