As an independent voter, I care less about party affiliation and more about honest effectiveness.
Here’s a quote from Rep. Lauren Boebert’s latest newsletter: “As demonstrated by the blackouts across Texas, we cannot solely rely on renewable energy, and we cannot afford to ban natural gas and fossil fuels.”
Fact: The issues in Texas were not caused by renewable energy. Less than 7% of Texas power is supplied through renewables (mostly wind turbines). The ironically named Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), which controls the grid in Texas, did a crappy job and people are paying for it with their lives.
ERCOT underestimated crisis loads by 45%, and failed to adopt weather protections to natural gas supplies (a fossil fuel) and renewables. I also discovered the Texas grid is the only grid in North America that is not under some kind of federal monitoring.
What concerns me about Boebert’s messaging is that many people believe anything these politicians say and lack the willingness and digital literacy to fact-check with nonpartisan, independent sources.
Do not outsource the crafting of your opinions to Lauren Boebert. Renewable energy was not the issue in Texas. She’s not doing her homework.
