Less than one year into my grandson Liam’s life, our family’s world was flipped upside down when we learned that he had an enlarged heart and congestive heart failure. His only hope for survival was a heart transplant.
Incredibly, after only three weeks on the transplant list, Liam’s life was saved when he received the gift of life through organ donation.
Right now in our region there are nearly 2,000 people waiting on a lifesaving transplant. This April is National Donate Life Month, and I’m inviting the entire community to join me in raising awareness for organ, eye and tissue donation.
Now, at 7, Liam is living the life of a normal kid with a special gift. He’s very active, learning to ride a bike, ski and hike. Liam is living his life to the fullest and inspiring our family and community in the process. Our family continues to feel grateful to his donor and know Liam is destined for a life filled with love, happiness and success. I’m sharing Liam’s story this month as a heartfelt way to pay it forward and remind our community and people across Colorado to live with others in mind.
Everyone can register, right now. DonateLifeColorado.org is a great resource with the facts you need to make an informed decision about donation and to sign up to become an organ, eye and tissue donor online.
