Mike Sigman (Herald, Jan. 27) writes of “the rejection of the Trump presidency by the Democratic Party” and that “if the Republicans had done the same thing after Obama’s election, there would have been a primal scream from the left.”
Well, sir, you certainly have a short memory; the day after Obama entered office, Republican legislators, led by Mitch McConnell, vowed to block any efforts of his to accomplish anything even if would help the country, and limit him to one term.
Yes, Obamacare has its problems and needs work, but 20 million more people now have insurance than before. No one can be denied coverage and now people can change jobs without fear of going without.
Republicans wasted six years and over 60 House votes trying to kill Obamacare, and in the meantime they still haven’t figured a replacement that wouldn’t harm many who are now covered.
Oh yes, and they didn’t allow the president to nominate a Supreme Court justice.
And when the folks who voted Trump into office start paying a lot more for things when they go to Walmart or Home Depot (if the things are still there) because Trump blows up trade deals, and we throw away billions on the stupid wall instead of good paying infrastructure jobs that would actually help the country, those folks may be less than pleased.
But what do I know?
